2017-18

Some salient features of activities of Raniganj Chamber of Commerce of the year 2017-18  are as follows:

 

INDUSTRY :

i)                    Received invitation from District Magistrate, Bankura on Synergy - Bankura Business Conclave on 05.05.2017 at Rabindra Bhawan , Bankura.

ii)                  Invitation from MSME- DI to attend meeting on 08.05.2017 at Kolkata.

iii)                Invitation to attend finance clinic to be held at DI-MSME, Durgapur on 18.01.2018 and 20.03.2018.

iv)                Taken up the case of abrupt disruption to CBM Gas at Mangalpur Industrial Estate with concerned authorities.

 

RAILWAYS :

            Like in the past years we represented citizen’s requirements with Indian Railways. Some demands were for new services or increase in the frequency of services or for stoppage of some trains at Raniganj. Also, unsatisfactory services and unclean compartments were brought to the notice of Railway management.

            As usual, helped citizens, using influence of chambers to sort out issues regarding wait listed, seat confirmation ad help to the handicapped with the railway.

            Raniganj Chamber, categorically demanded for the re-introduction of service of return tickets on Raniganj- Howrah- Sealdah section.

            Chamber had taken up the issue of non-receipt of money against cancelled   tickets which were paid in Rs.500.00 and Rs.1000.00 currency notes on demonetization.

On behalf of Ukhra Chamber of Commerce, taken up the issue of stoppage of Vananchal Express at Ukhra.

            Requested railway authorities for the proper maintenance of garden and illumination of the statue of Swami Vivekananda at Railway station at Raniganj.

            Raniganj chamber is always very vocal about extension of rail line from Raniganj to Bankura for the benefit of whole area.

            Our delegation met with Shri P.K. Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager, Eastern Railway Asansol on 14.12.2017 for an interactive session. Shri P.K. Mishra visited our chamber to meet all members 28.12.2017 and a   memorandum with all requests and complaints was submitted to him.

 

            During the Peer Baba Mela requested the railway authorities for extra long time of stoppage of some trains at Raniganj station to facilitate boarding / detraining of pilgrims / ladies.

            A Dharna was organized under the aegis FOSBECCI, in front of the office of Divisional Railway Manager, Eastern Railway Asansol on 08.03.2018, for redressal of our demands and grievances.

            Requested for the stoppage of Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani express at Asansol and for re-development of Asansol Station.

 

ROADS :

            Raniganj chamber always campaigned relentlessly for better roads for Raniganj and was successful in some.

            Demanded for completion of Ajay Damodar stretch of NH-60.   Requested for the bye pass of Raniganj in the NH-60 section, so that vehicular load on NSB Road is reduced for the safety of public.

            Requested PWD for repair / renewal of sign boards of roads and wards.  Taken up issues  of Mangalpur Industrial and Trade Welfare Association regarding service lanes at Mangalpur Industrial Area.

            Attended a meeting with ADM at SDO’s office regarding land near Kalipahari Nunia bridge,   service lane at left side of Ningha and truck lay by lane at Indkata on 30.05.2017. Taken up the issue of the difficulties faced by citizens of Punjabi More with Minister of Road Transport and Highway, Shri Gadkari and others. Also, the bad state of service roads at Punjabi More, Raniganj, was brought to the notice of NHAI.

            ADDA had taken up improving drainage of Mangalpur Industrial Area, the NHAI, after Raniganj Chamber had raised the issue with them.  Made complaints to AMC regarding various roads in Raniganj. Chamber objected to the installation of speed breakers on NSB Road, Raniganj.

 

TAXATION :

            Like always, the chamber tried and intervened at its best to solve different problems and disputes with authorities, Chamber representatives attended many meetings conducted by Commercial tax authorities at Kolkata / Durgapur / Asansol, especially regarding GST.

            Camp was held at chamber premises to facilitate payment of land revenues and the citizens used this opportunity to avail the facility. Shri Ashok Kr. Saraff and Shri Santosh Tantia attended the Income Tax celebrations on Income Tax day on 24.07.2017 at Asansol.

 

CIVIC AMENITIES:

            Raniganj Chamber maintained excellent relationship with AMC authorities and staff. Requests for repairs of roads, sign boards, beautification of ponds, parks, and stadium were made time to time.

            Raniganj Chamber frequently appealed and intervened for reduction of holding tax and licenses fees tax  for trade  and agro  trade with the authorities, who had increased  same many fold.

 

Raniganj Chamber requested with the authorities for safe practices on N.S.B. Road like dividers and reflectors etc. Requested for dedicated Parking areas in Raniganj town. With Raniganj Chambers’ active intervention Sasti Goria park was renovated and beautified. Raniganj Chamber participated in the meeting with Mayor and others of Asansol Municipal Corporation on 11.01.2018. Also took up strongly against the menace of Hawkers and parking of vehicles which affected traffic at many roads in Raniganj.

 

LAW AND ORDER:

Raniganj Chamber maintained excellent relationship with civil administration especially with police and traffic guard. Interactions with them were frequent and cordial.

            Chamber requested for installation of CCTV cameras in the town at prominent places with central control room and command facilities. Raniganj Chamber organized a seminar on Cyber Security – challenge and awareness on 01.06.2017 and many distinguished speakers as well as Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate attended.

            Many cases of thefts and disputes were represented by Raniganj Chamber to the Raniganj Police and we gratefully acknowledge their immediate response and action.

            Invited Raniganj Police Station to participate in  during  the distributions of steel, utensils, saris, Mosquito nets etc to the poor and Officer-in-Charge was invited to be the guest of honor.

 

            Explained to the Officer-in-Charge, traffic guard about congestion created on all roads in Raniganj by vehicles and hawkers. Attended a meeting with police at  Sri Sitaramji Bhawan on 27.12.2017 regarding Toto related problems. Attended                      co-ordination meeting on 22.02.2018 on law and order situation in Raniganj on the festival of Holi.

 

BANKING:

As per the usual practice Raniganj Chamber kept the members informed regarding changes and new developments in banking system by keeping regular liaison with all banks.

             Complaints of members and general citizens with banks about service and delays were taken up to respective banks and redressals were arranged.

            Shri R.P. Khaitan was invited to Raniganj Co-Operative Bank as a special guest at the 196th Annual General Meeting of the bank on 06.06.2017. Many people were inconvenienced suffered due to the accumulation of coins with them and the banks were not   accepting same. Chamber’s interventions helped in this problem, by banks agreeing to take coins on certain days and we received direction from RBI for same. In some banks bad customer relations and bad work culture were observed and a receipt of complaints same were attended to. Defective or non-operative ATMs were brought to concerned banks’ higher ups and suitable solutions were found. Transfer of LPG subsidy to unauthorized accounts were noticed and same were brought to the notice of Zonal or Regional Office of concerned bank.

            We requested all branches of Banks as Raniganj to install ATM in markets and shopping areas. Complaints of members regarding wrong accounting of credit and Debit card with various agencies were made in due course.

 

ELECTRICITY:
            Raniganj Chamber regrets to state that in spite of repeated requests and complaints, the state of affairs of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd.  is dismal. Cases of exorbitant bills, defective meters, imaginary billing, bills after disconnection or for unused connections etc. still continue.  Normal reply is computer errors. Very frequent power outrage continues, sometimes unbearable, especially in   summer time.

            Raniganj Chamber received a reply that, 33 KW system breakdown and power was being supplied from Ukhra substation. However the scenario did not improve.

            On 15.06.2017 a meeting called by West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. was attended by chairman and members of power committee at Asansol Collectorate to discuss various issues.

            Raniganj Chamber had  requested India Power Corporation for shifting of HT line  crossing  over NH2 at Punjabi More and they compelled with it  promptly. President, Secretary and Chairman Power Committee attended a meeting on 28.07.2017 with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. officials from Durgapur, Asansol etc at our premises and various  matters of supply, billing and customer care etc were discussed.

            We received a power tariff and terms & conditions for connection by India Power Corp. 

 

POSTAL SERVICES :

India Post being one of the oldest Government service was known for efficient and punctual service. However, due to the influence of poor work culture and indifference these qualities have come down.

            Raniganj Chamber had raised the issues of poor customer service at Raniganj Post Office,  specially for  ladies and senior  citizens. There were instances of harassment     meted out to customers and these issues were taken up.

 

TELECOMMUNICATION :

Telephone system had fallen into bad times for Raniganj   town, mainly due to damage to optical and other cables from Asansol caused by the construction of NH2. The faults were high on Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited internet services. The system is limping back.

            Raniganj Chamber had offered free service to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited to link Aadhar to land line subscribers numbers. Also complaints from members regarding poor service was taken up with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.

 

WEIGHTS & MEASURMENT :

            The practice of holding a camp for weights and measures by Legal Metrology Department, Govt. of West Bengal at the premises of Raniganj Chamber of Commerce was always found to be a good public relation exercise and proved successful.

            Traders were able to get their weighing equipments and measures checked, calibrated and certified by this department of West Bengal This year also Raniganj Chamber organized a camp from 06.02.2018 to 13.02.2018 and was very successful.

 

LABOUR RELATION:

Raniganj Chamber maintained excellent and cordial relations with Mutia Mazdoor Union. Chamber acted as centre for processing and expediting various agreements related to working hours, bonus and wages. Also intervened to settle labour and behavioral disputes of the Mazdoors and owners.

 

Union representations and chamber organized a meeting on 26.03.2018 and due to unavoidable circumstances the meeting was postponed and the agreement was signed later.

 

HEALTH SERVICES :

            Health checkups and treatments at various hospitals, where Raniganj Chamber of Commerce has tie ups were given to members and their family members.

            Raniganj Chamber has tie ups with Mission Hospital, Peerless, Forties, B.P. Poddar, R.N. Tagore, AMRI, IQ City, Gouri Devi, Health World hospital to name a few.

              Free medical camps were organized under the able guidance of Health & Welfare Committee chairman,  Shri B.K. Khaitan and  by IMA , Mission Hospital etc. in various specialties   like ENT,  Heart, Diabetes etc at regular intervals. 

 

GENERAL :

Raniganj Chamber of Commerce has kept open excellent communication channel with Government, quasi Government, Administration and Civic Bodies at all time.

            We are extremely thankful to above institutions especially the Mayor, Chairperson of Borough-II, M.L.A., Sabhapati of Raniganj and  our M.P. and Minister at centre Shri Babul Suprio for their unstinted support and able guidance at all times.
